Formulation

MSDS Formulation is the application for rules-based authoring, and designed to automate the production of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) using information about finished products or product components. For companies whose business requires frequent changes in product recipe or formulation, this rules-based application offers a cost effective way of automatically generating MSDS’s.

Automated MSDS Creation
MSDS’s may be generated largely without human intervention, using MSDS templates, standard phrases, ingredient or finished product information selected by pre-defined rules and/or parts of other MSDS’s. By constructing MSDS’s from these building blocks, changes that effect an entire group of MSDS’s, or a class of products, can be made very quickly.

User-Definable Chemical Information
The foundation for the MSDS Formulation application is a database containing basic information about each chemical, with an unlimited capacity for user-defined data elements. These elements can include (but are not limited to) chemical name, CAS Number, designations for mixtures and components, trade secrets, specific gravity, hazard class, and links to regulatory lists.

Rules for MSDS Creation
One use of the Chemical Information Database is to serve as the source of data for dynamic MSDS creation. When an MSDS is required for a newly created mixture or product, it is generated automatically based on a template. Values can be either numeric (such as flash point, PEL, TLV), or textual (such as hazard statements, or disclaimers). The data may be obtained directly from a product's chemical information record, or constructed dynamically from a list of ingredients. For variable data, there are three possible methods in which ingredient information can be placed into the finished MSDS; Single Value, Range of Values, or All Values. Further processing can be performed by executing calculations or flagging exclusive pairs, such as ingredients which might have incompatible hazard statements.

Dispatching MSDS’s
Used in combination with MSDS Dispatch, MSDS Formulation sends new or changed product MSDS’s to customers automatically when interfaced with core business systems.
